Older brother (76 or 77) has bad prostate cancer
« on: March 11, 2018, 03:05:43 am »
Not sure how it was discovered, but he avoids Dr's, since there's nothing wrong with him that he can see.   >:( :(

He's getting stomach injections once a month, and up to 39 chemo treatments starting in May.

He's doing o.k., more or less, as he was skiing (!!) the other day.

He looks o.k.

I have 4 brothers alltogether, so we have to be careful/get tested.

Thanks, Paul.....I'll keep you posted.  Peter

I'm part of a study at Sunnybrook (I volunteered) to see if a PSA blood test or MRI is better at catching prostate cancer.  I'm in the PSA group - I had no choice.
I wish I was in the MRI group - their handout says MRI's are much better at catching prostate cancer.   ::)

Thanks, Dragonfly....

I'm in the blood test group (PSA).
There's also the MRI group.

You don't have a choice of what group you're in, but the sheet they give you says MRI is much better at catching prostate cancer.

Peter

I wish I was in the MRI group!

My brother also has Alzheimers (not noticeable to me or others) - that's also recent.......I think his older son decides about his treatments....I'll investigate.

Sorry to hear about your brother and I hope he is doing ok. Make sure you tell your doctor about it as well, they often pay more attention when there is a family member who has gotten a certain kind of cancer. Hugs to you and your family.
