General Discussion / How's everyone doing?
« on: February 26, 2016, 05:12:37 am »
I'm ok....semi.  Maybe mildly depressed for months....can't be bothered to tidy up and such for ages....but going to the gym lately, on the other hand.

I don't have Seasonal Affective Disorder that I know of...  Looking forward to Daylight Savings Time in early March!

Found out I have a cataract.  Not a huuge deal - it could affect my vision years down the road.  My optometrist says sunglasses will help.  I'm very bright light sensitive anyway.

General Discussion / Taking a singing course....
« on: January 15, 2016, 02:23:50 am »
Toronto Bd of Education evening course.  3 (!) hours on Tuesdays, but no break (!), so we leave 15 minutes early.

First class was Tuesday - strenuous!  Stretching exercises, especially.  Learned a LOT about anatomy, vocal chords and such.  Trivia:  whispering is bad for your voice, among other things....can't remember the other things.

I thought I was getting a sore throat afterwards - my (older) vocal chords weren't used to that much of a workout.

Luckily, the teacher is very good, and funny!

Peter

I thought this might help with anxiety - proper breathing and such.  I've never sung before.

General Discussion / Organizing my apt/things....
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:52:27 pm »
Organizing my apt/things.  Although my tiny apt is messy I get really pleased when I discover a shortcut.

It occurred to me today to do a Word document (with links) of clubs I belong to, and clubs/places I could go to.....partly to meet chix :-*  I can still keep the brochures I have on the above - one reason my apt is messy.

This was a good one a few months ago - my shopping cart (I only use it for laundry) takes up a lot of space.  I store it in the bathtub!  Out of sight.

This is also a great excuse not to take a bath....too much trouble to move it.

General Discussion / Flu shot tomorrow.....

Can't wait!  To hand out creepy Halloween rings :o to the staff.

Also, I have a plastic bat - I'll put it to my neck, and ask if they can remove vampire bats from peoples' (sp.) necks.

Besides, rings, skulls, skeletons, I also have realistic, plastic maggots......not too many takers....they even creep me out a bit - sticky!   ;)

Peter

I sometimes hang the maggots from my glasses.

General Discussion / cataracts....
« on: October 07, 2015, 04:33:14 pm »
Retina specialist told me yesterday I have cataracts in both eyes.  I was taken aback, but not worried.  "Old age" he said.

I sometimes briefly forget if I'm 68 or 69 in June.  69.

This is a repeat, but I see a retina specialist because I have a tear and a hole on the back of my right retina.  I forgot to ask him yesterday if I still have both.  Not serious, as I only see him twice a year.

I had my retina repaired via laser.  Also not serious - done in Dr's office kind of spur of the moment, hardly hurt, no anaesthetic or anything.
I think a hole and tear are kinda funny.  :P

Hole and tear don't really affect vision - but can cause flashing lights and GIANT 'floaters," but they're transparent.  Haven't had those in 2 years or so.

General Discussion / Saw inexpensive SAD lamp...
« on: September 29, 2015, 12:32:05 am »
Saw an inexpensive, small SAD lamp at Shoppers.  I forget the price....not sure how good it is.

I have a more expensive one from Shoppers, but from the stores that are attached to Shoppers that sell crutches and such...  I don't really use it.

General Discussion / Ever thought of taking a self-defense course?
« on: July 17, 2015, 11:28:41 pm »
(this question has nothing to do with MH or being a "Moodie.")

Took judo in Grade 7 - doesn't count.

If I had extra $, I would take maybe Krav Maga - it was invented by a Jewish guy in Bratislava (?) who was sick of anti Semitic thugs. (years ago)

I believe it's used by the Israeli (and Russian?) armed forces? It's a combination of other martial arts.

There are other Russian self defence methods........I forget the names.

Why am I interested? - I'm old (68), in a dumpy neighbourhood, fitness, the world is more and more dangerous.  Exercise.....confidence.

General Discussion / getting a cat tomorrow.....my first one
« on: May 17, 2015, 11:06:26 pm »
Right side of page, half way down....Peshawna.

 I wanted a middle-aged cat....they're "on the shelf" a long time.

Lots of their cats have ailments!!! Sheesh......litterbox problems etc....mine had minor stuff.

I'll build a little fort for him to hang around in at first.....since he'll be scared.

This is life changing!

 Peter

No shortage of toys around here....looking for small toy robots......7 dollars each. From the Source (formerly Radio Shack)

General Discussion / Which meow should I adopt?

don't find long haired cats appealing.....not because of shedding.
Same with orange, but I would take one.

I hope to get an older one, but not like 14-16 years old.

Someone told me to get a male, because they're more.......?.........I forget....never heard of that.

Problem....walking me up at odd hours.....but that's life.

I have tiny apt, if the cat is used to a housel.,,,,,,,

But my tin apt has lots of nooks and crannies.....toys that light up.... I'm getting a bunch of toy robots at The Source (formerly Radio Shack. Only six bucks each. They have a swimming robot that I would but in a container of water - that'll make the cat curious.

There are pairs of cats than can't be separated.......no prob, but my tiny apt.......

 Peter

It wouldn't be bored around here!

Ordering some cat DVD's from Amazon....DVD's of birds, squirrels....

General Discussion / Shaved my chin spinach.....
« on: May 12, 2015, 02:34:35 am »
Shaved the other day for the first time in 38 years!  Left on goatee and moustache for now (short).
I had a very short beard before, trimmed my neck the last few years.

I look the same now.......LOL....because my beard was so short.  And nice to see underneath most of the beard.
I get a bit of acne now and then.  (Mother Nature:  Haven't you noticed I'm 68 in June?  >:()

The acne is almost always in the goatee/moustache area.

:(  I'm a little worried some of my skin idiosyncracies (sp) will be more prominent now.

I have Fordyce condition/granules on my upper lip on one side.  Fordyce is common, but usually below the waist. You'll have to look it up....sorry.

Dr., shrink, nurse practitioner:  "I don't see anything. when I point it out to them."   >:(  But you can see it in photographs a bit.

Treatment is controversial....."this may work"....."may not" and so on........  I'd have to pay out of pocket.

Peter

See my avatar - see why I wear a straightjacket 24/7?.....LOL  :o

General Discussion / "Emergency Nap Syndrome"
« on: April 23, 2015, 01:36:56 am »
"Emergency Nap Syndrome" - borrowing one of Paul M,'s expression.... When you have a nap NOT on purpose, when you're depressed or anxious.

I had one tonite.

I'm getting a cat....but I wanna clean up/tidy up first in case it hides under the bed....or similar.

Anyway, I have a lot of tidying up to do.....  I was going to do a ton tonite, but I felt really drowsy all of a sudden, and HAD to take a nap.  No thoughts were going through my head...I just had to nap.

If I tell someone how long I've been putting off adopting a cat because of not tidying up......embarrassing!
 :-[  I wouldn't tell anyone that.

The unconscious/subconscious (?) reason I keep putting this off - getting a cat is a change in routine/lifestyle......especially maybe sleeping routines, since cats can have non human sleep schedules....LOL
