Went for hearing test and sleep clinic the other day. Long wait between the two!
Sleep clinic - btw, it's part of pulmonary or breathing difficulties part of hospital. I was surprised...makes sense, I guess.
Went to sleep around 10.....got up at 6 a.m. - you have to, because cleaners come at 6:30 - I got about 2 hours sleep!!!!!! Nurse said they can get data if the person doesn't sleep at all. I've sleepwalked the odd time lately.....a few feet, and shuffle papers on desk around. I was hoping to sleepwalk last nite, so they could say aha!.....But maybe they can tell a person has a tendency to sleepwalk..
Hospitals are cold.....I didn't realize there's a big bin of blankets in the hall. I take two.....BUT putting them on and adjusting them, I'm afraid I'll undo electrodes.
I go to pee once, and nurse comes running.....I undid one electrode....they can tell, also, they videotape us.
I'm afraid to change positions, adjust blanket etc in case I disturb electrodes.

Guy at a sleep study. The thing around his neck, mine was bigger, and heavy. When you go to sleep, you put it on a table....you don't wear it at night.

Hello Peter. I never got a good nights sleep either whenever I've had to stay at a sleep clinic (4 times). I also hate being forced to get up at 6am , not to mention being wired before 10pm. I hope that you get a good result from the clinic. Take Care paul m

Paul, thanks.....For results, I see a Dr. on August 28.....Long wait.

I have to go again the end of August.....see sleep Dr. in November.
I'll find out, but probably because I only slept 2 hours...I think. So they didn't have enuf data.
Plan for next time....dress more warmly...serious. I've never been in a hospital overnight - I didn't realize at first that there is a container in the hall where you can grab blankets.
If I go to bed at 10:00, then I'll go to bed at 10 a few days before the test, so my body isn't in shock from going to bed so early.

People ask if I have trouble sleeping.
Not necessarily.....the sleep lab is partly to find out things that you may not be aware of when you sleep:
-loud snoring
-breathing difficulties and such....

I also don't have so much trouble sleeping since taking Mirtazapine, which I take at night.
I don't mind the vivid dreams on it.

It turns out I don't have to go for a second sleep study....they got enough data from my first one. Maybe I slept more than I thought.
BUT, I see the sleep Dr. re the results around November 7! >:( Long wait! What if I have something wrong? I think I'm a loud snorer.
Paul, you guys can hear me snore to all the way to where you live on Lake Simcoe (?)? :o

Hi Peter,
I went for a sleep study. I didn't sleep much. I was told that I needed to do another one. I was borderline. The doctor that is the head of the sleep study is a crook. All he wanted to do was to sell me one of those machines. The doctor asked how much I drove. I said not much. I read in reviews that he will take your license away. Reviews totally not good on him. I was sent for this study by my kidney specialist. When I saw him again he was very happy that I didn't buy the machine.
At home I became very angry about the fact that the doctor wanted another sleep study. No way I am doing it again. Although the doctor led me to believe I had a very slight sleep apnea he was playing on me for his profit.
I am not saying that sleep studies are not good for some people.

Hi, Dragonfly....Sorry to hear about that weasel doctor!
My sleep clinic is at St. Michael's hospital, so there would be any weasely behavior by the Dr.

I found out I have sleep apnea.....didn't know I have that.
I'll have to wear a CPAP mask.
I test drove one on my nose only at the sleep clinic.
I can adjust to wearing one when I sleep.....not the end of the world.
Some people say they sleep more soundly wearing one.

My sister uses CPAP, Peter and it really helps her. She's much more refreshed in the morning. Good luck!!

Hello Peter. I found the mask really easy to use when I pu my mind to it. You can also get various masks and hook ups. Mine covers my nose only. Take Care. paul m

So much positive feedback!
I can get used to wearing the mask - a person can get used to almost anything.
Re getting used to things, I haven`t used salt for over 30 years. The odd food (very few), I have to have salt, like fish and chips, corn.
The last few months only, I`ve been putting a bit of salt on potatoes.
During my 30`s, my blood pressure was slightly high. Dr. said to cut down on salt....or don`t use any?......I forget.
Peter
I realize there's a lot of hidden salt in food.

Hi Peter,
I hardly use salt also. As you say there is a lot of hidden salt in foods. Should make food from scratch to watch salt intake. At this stage of the game being older and mostly on my own I can't be bothered.
