An endoscopy is a procedure whereby they put a long tube down your mouth that goes into your stomach.
They spray the back of your throat with something to prevent the gag reflex.  The end of the tube has a tiny camera and tiny tweezers for taking samples of bad stuff.

Anyway, I've had 4 of them years ago with no (!) anesthetic.  :o (no, I'm not Chuck Norris.....LOL)

I was planning to get one with an anesthetic today, and I was worried I'd be staggering around like a drunk afterwards.  The handout they give you says "don't take a bus by yourself."  I took a cab, and the hospital is close.

Maybe the gastroenterologist adjusted the sedative dose because I told him I took a Clonazepam yesterday?  I didn't find the sedative (Valium via drip?) that strong, but I still feel something 12 hours later.

Anyway, all went well.

Should anyone be getting the procedure or a similar one in the future, if I can handle it....so can you.
I know it sounds creepy, but I find giving blood samples more creepy, actually.

Hi, HSG - I'm an Alan Watts fan.  Coincidence - I bookmarked some of his YouTubes the other day.

I have various Zen books that I only look at once in a while.  Watts can write a book about Zen Buddhism without mentioning "Zen" or "Buddhism!"  He was an Anglican priest/minister.

They have a small building close to McCaul and College - it's for gambling and quitting smoking cigarettes.

I still go to my quit smoking group once in a blue moon altho' I quit about 7 years ago. Yes, I'm still jonesing for a smoke once in a while - it goes away.

Peter

BTW, I get nicotine once in a while, and I've been doing this for 7 years without restarting smoking.  Sometimes when I'm jonesing for one, I use the inhaler for a few minutes.  I haven't in months, though, and I only do that during the evening, and I would never carry the inhaler with me when going out.

The inhaler plus support group plus "the patch" helped me quit.

See first page of this site.  I only learned about this show recently, as I was depressed.  I'm usually one of the 8 or so "graduates" that does 2-3 warmup jokes, but not this time - I think they have 8 people already.

Hi, e....Some hospitals in Toronto offer such courses, but you may have to be a patient at that hospital.  I took such a course at St. Mike's - I was accepted because my family Dr. and nurse practitioner are part of the hospital.  Toronto General and Western (?) had such courses too.

This area is a little confusing, as there's "regular" meditation, mindfulness meditation (takes too long to explain), and being "mindful."  The MDAO has a course in being mindful.

I've been doing "regular" meditation (sit in chair for 15 or so minutes, concentrate on breath to try to eliminate any thoughts) off and on for years.  VERY helpful for anxiety......re depression, I'm not sure if I can during depression.  BTW, when meditating, worrying/getting mad about intrusive thoughts is worse than the actual thoughts....only learned that semi recently.

I thought I meditated "well" this morning.......I notice that I'm being a little more mindful because of that.......for instance, eating a little more slowly.  Maybe when I get on the bus later, the bus will seem more interesting than usual.....I mean visually.

A bonus of being mindful when walking down the street or whatever - MUCH less negative ruminating - I'm too busy noticing my surroundings!

Good luck, Peter

Thanks, back to "normal" now, and I have leftover pain meds just in case.

Different topic - I got myself out of depression (more or less) twice lately by forcing myself to leave the apt and walk a lot/do errands.

I think that more strenuous exercise would help even more.

I need tips on catching triggers.  They can be very subtle.

I haven't finished rereading my WRAP manual yet.....maybe something in there?

General Discussion / Re: Donations to charities
« on: September 07, 2014, 12:02:49 am »
Charities are meant for the rich as a tax right off and nothing more . Any money that goes into the charity is just to pay some CEO a million dollar plus bonus.

A little harsh?  You can probably see their salaries on the net.

BTW, Value Village stores donate SOME of their profits to charities. (contrary to public opinion)  I emailed them to ask why no mental health charities on their list, and they said mental health issues people would be indirectly getting some of the profits - I forget the exact phrase they used.

I used to work at Queen's Park.  People there who earn over $100,000 have their names, salaries and titles published for all to see (by law?).  Anyway, lots of surprises, like police constables (lotsa overtime?), tradespeople (lotsa overtime?).

Paul, a person from the group emails everyone in the group to tell them.....I always forget which Saturday of the month it is.  The person who emails everyone chooses a restaurant, maybe with input from other members.  Lately not a lot of people show up - less than 10.

Want me to ask her if a "newbie" can be put on the email list?

The social phobia support group started by Earla Dunbar (look her up - she's famous in the mental health community).  I forget the exact name, but maybe their site even closed.

However, the other social phobia support group (lotsa members) is still around.  I forget the name, but they often use one of the MDAO rooms, but they aren't part of MDAO.  The head of that group is "Rama."

Earla is a nice lady, and a pioneer.  There are awards named after her.

Good tips!

The main Toronto library has the largest collection of recordable/downloadable music in the world.  (how they measure these things?)
You need a library card to get on.
