Thanks for the reply Paul,

I don't know why I want everything done yesterday. It almost seems like if I don't get it done now it will never get done. It almost seems like I am in a time crunch. I may not be here tomorrow. It should be done before then.

I like your suggestion about concentrating on one subject. My mind too can hop from one subject to another quickly.

When I camp things seem so much simpler. No TV, phone, etc. Nature is beautiful. The vegetation, animals, birds. Don't have all the materialistic things there. Read, swim. Play with my grandchildren if they are there. Bond with my family. Relax. So much stress is removed. Why can't it be more like this at home.

I have decided that over the winter I am slowly going to declutter my house. I will give to my kids or donate things that I really don't use. I would say I am not a hoarder but there is still too much stuff in my house. When my husband and I were first married we had the necessities and that was it. It certainly has mushroomed.
I am getting wordy again. When I talk to my kids on the phone I talk a lot. I think it is because I am now by myself. I catch myself doing it and they laugh. They don't mind.

Peace I don't quite know what to say about your situation.

You try your darndest to make things work in your family. You are getting no support from your husband and it sounds like your daughters are following suit.

I think it would be hard for anyone to handle the noise from the installation of the windows. I know I would have a hard time with that. Glad you could spend some time with your sister stress free.

I am glad that you posted your concerns here. You are not being negative. You are just stating how you feel and the facts.

Thinking of you.

Have a great time, Paul you and your wife. Is this vacation got anything to do with your grandchild being born?

Let us know how your vacation was when you get back.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone stay on a rigid schedule. I know this is hard when you are suffering from mania or depression.

I never seem to have my getting up, breakfast, lunch, supper and going to bed at around the same time. It always seems to be at different times. There is always something to do so I stretch these times.  How important is it to keep on a rigid schedule?
I do suffer from insulin dependent diabetes so I have to eat three meals a day or I don't feel well. Usually have a snack in the evening so I can get through the night without my sugar level going too low.
When you are going out or have a social event it is very hard to stay on a rigid schedule.
This is a different topic. I am spending too much time on my computer. My mind is racing. There are so many things to do. I feel I need to do them all which is unrealistic. Can't seem to pace myself. Everything has to be done yesterday. Anyone has those feelings.

Paul I will think about the gift card idea. I think it would be a very good one. Will look at the government website some more.

Thank you Peace (I can't help thinking of you as spirit). That website is great. What an eye opener as to how much really goes to some charities. I appreciate that you looked up this website for me even though you thought it might effect your OCD. You are as helpful and caring as ever.

Thanks Peter. I do have donations picked up by the diabetes charity. Am I right in saying these items go to Value Village?

mommyfeelinglost - that is such a good idea about growing extra vegetables to give for a soup kitchen. Helping animals is such a good thing too.

Does anyone know of any craft that could be done to help people?

General Discussion / Re: Lamictal and Abilify for Bipolar 2?
« on: September 07, 2014, 10:03:31 pm »
I suffer from bipolar II. I suffer mostly sometimes from severe depression. Lithium and lamictal have helped a lot. Also some mania.

Paul I take 10 mg. of propranolol and it helps a lot for the shakes.  Without it I could hardly write my name. I can't remember exactly how long I have been taking it. It has been a few years though.

Thanks everyone for your information, websites and views. I will research the charities that I am interested in from this.

I have a feeling that for me it is best to zero in on a few charities close to my heart.

I just thought of something. Actually I didn't just think of it. Her plight has been bothering me. I just heard of a woman that I know through my neice and her husband. Her husband is the brother. Her husband just passed away from lung cancer. She is left with 5 children -ages 5 months to 14 years old. She will have to go on welfare. Wonder if I could do something for her and her children. Maybe I could ask my niece and husband how I could help. She may be too proud to want help from me. I could probably do it anonomosly. This has hit me. My husband died of lung cancer.

Hi JennyRN70,

I have taken lamictal for quite some years and it has helped me a great deal. I have never taken abilify.

My kidney function is now 30% because of lithium and diabetes. Of course I have been on lithium for around 30 years. They are weening me off of it slowly -started 30 years ago on 1500 mg. and now down to 300mg. The thinking now is that you don't need such a high dosage of lithium to make it effective thus less of an effect on the kidneys. (lithium does not effect everyone's kidneys).  So far I am doing fine with my moods since going lower in dosage. The pdoc believes that the lamictal is enough to allow this reduction in lithium and I believe him. When I started lithium lamictal was not around. I am not a doctor. What I have written may not work for you.
(am on a cocktail of drugs for my bi-polar II mental illness & been stable for quite a few years) I hope I haven't been too wordy.

I saw somewhere a list of the charities that people can donate to. Probably the most common ones (whatever that means). There are many many charities.
It listed how much went to administration and how much went to research. I believe cancer was half and half. Does anyone have the list.
It is tough to figure out which one to donate too. You can donate to more than one. Cancer, mental illness, diabetes and heart disease has touched my life.
Another one I think about is the humane society for animals. The homeless people. Single mothers with children. How do you choose.
My mother always said to my Dad instead of donating to so many charities why don't you give the money to our kids. I think the same way up to a point as my Mom.

Just some thoughts!

I don't mind that you have a slightly different point of view than I do about the ice bucket challenge. Actually with your information you have made me more knowledgeable (probably not spelt right) about ALS statistics and bipolar.
Your research on different matters is always good.

Has anyone participated in this ice bucket challenge. I guess it is a great way to raise money for ALS. I emphasize with people that have this disease and have died from it. I only know of a few people that have died from it and they were not close to me.
What about the other diseases like cancer, mental illness, diabetes and heart disease. These diseases have touched people very close to me. I would rather donate to these charities. A lot of people are probably going to critize me for my views.
This ice bucket challenge has taken off. Do people really know what ALS is?

It was very upsetting to hear about Robin Williams. He must have been in so much pain to do what he did. He must have seen no other way out.
Robin Williams was said to be a gentle, friendly and caring person. Didn't portray himself as a big movie star. Through some of his acting roles you could see the pain. Some of his other roles you could see the mania.
Some people say he was a coward and selfish to leave his family. When you are that severely depressed your self worth is zero. You feel that your family would be better off without you.
I think it has hit me so hard is because I have been in that place of severe depression. One of my suicide attempts was more a cry for help.
Other times I was very close to suicide. The way I was going to end it would have been final. For some reason maybe cowardice I didn't follow through.
When I was in this state of severe depression I did not realize I had manic-depression as it used to be called. It was very frightening and I felt so ashamed.
I am sure that I am not the only one on this forum that has felt that way.
Robin Williams was self medicating himself with drugs and alcohol.
I am probably writing what most people know already. I am not as eloquent as some of you that write. I do my best.

Thanks Rich for replying,

My youngest daughter goes to the library a lot. You can take out e-readers. She said she would get me one to try out. Thanks for the info.
