Started taking Lipitor, cholesterol medication...
« on: October 18, 2014, 01:54:48 pm »
10mg - a small dose.

I never pictured myself taking a cholesterol med, as I've been 80% vegetarian for centuries.
As you may know, a lot of cholesterol is produced by the body on its own, no relation to diet or whatever.

If I can exercise more/lose weight, I'll go off it temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Getting older!  67.....but healthy, generally.

Hello Peter. As you know I'm not exactly thin LOL. However I do not have a cholesterol problem, so I tend to agree that for some people it may have no relation to diet at all. Take Care. paul m

Hello.

I started taking cholesterol medication at age 28.  I was not over weight and had watched my diet.  I was switched to Lipitor years ago as it not only lowers the bad cholesterol, but it raises the good.

Keep an eye on your muscle aches and let the doctor know if you're concerned about it.  These meds are hard on the liver too.  Milk Thistle is an inexpensive and (in my opinion) an excellent way to clean the liver without harsh detoxing.

Take good care.
If you can't handle it when I'm at my worst, then you don't deserve me when I'm at my best.

Hi Peter,

My doctor for diabetes put me on lipitor. I had to go off it. My muscles ached.
My pdoc told me an interesting thing. He said he would never go on a statin which I believe lipitor is. He said your brain is made up of mostly fat and therefore cholesterol. I think I understood him correctly.
My kidney specialist put me on ezetrol for cholesterol. I seem to be tolerating it okay. It is not a statin.
I have a friend who is not at all overweight. Her cholesterol is high. It runs in her family.

Thanks for reminding me about muscle aches.

Speaking of liver, I may or may not get my gall bladder removed.  It's under the liver - I had to look it up.

Went to Emergency again re gall bladder pain!...."we can't find anything.".....the pain went away.

Coincidence:  I had an apt with surgeon next day - the apt was made ages ago.  He thinks a stone may be rattling around....want to remove gall bladder.....no date yet.  He also wants to do MRI.

MRI date is January.  I hope the operation is before then (if that makes sense) - don't want to keep going to emergency!  >:(

Hi Peter,

I had a number of attacks before they figured out that I had gall stones. I was suspicious. I had the same symptoms as my mother, father and sister had when they were diagnosed with gall stones and had their gall bladders removed. That was probably 25 yrs. ago that I had it removed. The operation was the long way. I had to recuperate for about 4 - 6 weeks.
Amazing how they remove the gall bladder now. Recuperation time is not very long unless there are complications of course.

Hope you have an operation soon.

Hello Peter. I know nothing about gall bladders, but wouldn't doing an MRI help make the diagnosis?

Anyways I hope they find out what is wrong soon as being in pain and having to go to the ER is never pleasant. Good Luck. Take Care. paul m

Paul, yes, an MRI would help make a diagnosis.  It's a wonder I didn't get one in Emergency.

Still recovering.  I'm a little better every day.  I was walking around (but wobbly) a couple hours after the operation.
The surgeon made 4 small incisions...but lotsa bruises around them.

Thanks, Paul.  Less pain lately when bending and such.  Pretty ugly when I take off my shirt!...the wounds and bruises.

Btw, a typical male (middle aged?) who avoids doctors and symptoms - ex Mayor Ford.  He said he had stomach pain "for months," and he only got it looked into lately?
