We have Christmas on the 15th due to some relatives' schedules, one relative's birthday is Christmas etc.

We do potluck.

We usually pick a name out of a hat the previous Christmas to give that person a surprise gift.

This year, we're donating money to The Toronto Wildlife Centre in memory of my brother who just passed away.  He was a "birder."

If he saw a bird, he could often tell if it's gender, and if it was a juvenile or an adult!  ;)

Hello Peter, I guess that we could all improve some, I know that I certainly could. But to me it's a matter of constantly making adjustments. It seems that every time I seem to get comfortable in one place,I end up taking a step or two backwards. Take Care, paul m

Eureka!  Haven't thought this out completely, but I softened my position on this.

A person could ask why it is taking ME so long to change -
-my being untidy
-putting things off etc....

Hi, Peace....Maybe it did....a bit.  This was ages ago - can't clearly remember.

BTW, my psychiatrist used to take my cigarette pack and throw it in the garbage in his office.... :-[

I quit on my own since then.....not exactly on my own - Nicoderm, support group at CAMH.

Did it motivate you to do tasks, Peter?

all he'd have to say to me is "you've talked about doing that since our initial appointments, please have it done by next appointment" and that was all I needed.

My ex psychiatrist used to tell me to leave a message on his phone once I've accomplished the task.

Forgot to mention, now I try (not always successful) to just do what needs to be done. Groceries? Go out as soon as store opens first day of sale type of thing. Exercise? First thing in the morning or as soon as I wake from a nap on goes the sweats and runners. If I don't force myself to do that I don't get anything done.

My psychiatrist explained to me those of us with OCD procrastinate so much because we think things through so much we rarely take action. He used to motivate me. I had such great respect for the man, retired now, that all he'd have to say to me is "you've talked about doing that since our initial appointments, please have it done by next appointment" and that was all I needed. As soon as I left his office I put the steps in place to have the task done by next appointment. It doesn't work so well with people I don't have such great respect for, but accountability is definitely something that motivates me.

We have a category of "what's on your mind?"  On Mood Garde, another forum.

On my mind will be the social phobia in our family......and people not going anything about it.... :(

The social phobia will be more visible. when we all get together.  (sorry for not being inarticulate about this...)

Since I'll be seeing family members at Christmas....(we exchange gifts on the 15, and bring potluck)  Actually, instead of gifts we donale to Toronto Wildlife.....I think.

I used to have a lot of social phobia....worked on it - Psychiatrist, support groups at MDAO????

I do/did something, A LOT about the social phobia, but no one else seems to.    :o

But, I realize my relatives aren't
genetically identical to me........because I can change, doesn't mean they cah also change.  Sorry if I'm inarticulate.

But still...........btw, because I strongly think this, that doesn't mean I'll confront people about this....Not suitable, in various ways.

Peter
