You see, for me, hope, healing and recovery are not individual attainments or life states. Like the best meal or song or spectacular view, these are most profoundly felt when shared with others. I will forever thank MOOD DISORDERS ASSOCIATION for allowing me to share this finest of all gifts.

On Tuesday morning August 27 1997, I awoke at 10:37 am on the psychiatric ward in Sunnybrook Hospital and I was well. After fifteen years of indescribable emotional, cognitive, and physical pain, I was well. After six psychiatrists, seventeen hospital stays, twenty-seven different medications, twenty-four electro-convulsive therapy treatments, countless amounts of psycho-therapy, I was well. Having experienced spontaneous remission after one dose of a new medication (that I would continue with for the next twelve years), I was well.

Touched By Fire Art Exhibition and Sale is Back

The Touched By Fire Art Exhibition and Sale is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. With 86 works of art being featured, it's going to be bigger than ever!

Touched By Fire features works of art by people living with depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder, and commemorates the life of Rebecca Burghardt, a young artist with bipolar disorder. Our three judges viewed more than 450 online submissions to choose the final pieces that will grace the walls of the Touched By Fire exhibition. On the evening of the show, the judges will award the Best Emerging Artist and Best In Show. Artists receive 100% of the funds from sold art.

Join us on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Coopers Fine Arts Gallery in downtown Toronto to celebrate these fine artists. You can meet the artists, enjoy tasty hors d'oeuvres and live jazz and take home a commemorative program. Admission is $10.00 payable in advance or at the door.
